THE BALLROOM The Queens Room is a
traditional Cunard room on a vessel. This particular one
is going to be designed after the rooms at Osbourne
House, Queen Victoria’s retreat on the Isle of Wight. It
is going to be a beautiful room. It will have an elegant
sculpture of Queen Victoria in it. I think people will
thoroughly enjoy going there for afternoon tea, and our
trademark balls - - our Ascot Ball, our Black and White
Ball. For ballroom dancing, the dance floor will be 1,000
square feet, so there will be plenty of room for everyone
to be wisked around the floor. There will be a series of
cantilevered balconies that will be a walkway reminiscent
of the Grand Lounge in QE2.
SHOPPING Now, we go shopping. The Royal
Arcade is our shopping area. We modeled this
area on the Burlington Arcade and the Queens
Arcade in London. So, it is a different style of
shopping area filled with wonderful shops and
4,000 square foot shops with all the brand names
that you would expect to see on Cunard vessels,
plenty of options with jewelry, perfume and other
good things. This will be another interesting
[double deck] area with a wonderful deck way
that leads down underneath to the Golden Lion
Pub on one side and on the other the casino.
THE WINTER GARDEN Near the top deck
will be the Winter Garden. It is an alternative style
of winter garden which has a roof that opens. It is
based upon a British style conservatory, plenty of
glass, a beautiful open feel. You can have tea and
we will also probably have a strawberry and
cream service. We are thinking of having a juice
bar up there with juices, fresh fruit and vegetables.
SWIMMING On to the central Pavilion pool area,
which is the main swimming pool. This has 10,000 square
feet of deck space for those who enjoy to see the sunshine.
At the after end of the ship, there is another pool, a bar
area and the Lido Grill, where you can take a table out
there and look out over the ocean. And, of course, we
have four Jacuzzis.
For the children, we have got the play area. This is another
interesting fact, Cunard was the first company to put a
children’s play area on a ship in 1862. We have been at it
ever since. We have the Play Zone for the little ones, the
Zone then takes over for the ones seven to 12 and we have
some activities for the 13 to 17s in that area later on when
the others go to bed. So, we have areas for children both
inside and outside.
SPA You’ve got the Cunard World Spa Fitness
Center, this is a very popular area on the ship with all
sorts of facilities. It is going to have a hydro-pool, a
thermal suite, all sorts of wonderful things like a tepid
area, a hot-dry area, and a hot-wet area. Of course,
we have got all sorts of equipment in the fitness center.
Cardio workout equipment, each has its own little
television if you get bored. It will have the equipment
that you expect in an excellent spa.

MUSEUM Now, we go see a very different room - -
Cunardia. This is our Cunard museum. This is the way that
we decided on this vessel to depict our history and our
heritage. We’ve tried several ways to show you - -
whether it is memorabilia and artifacts as on QE2 or
whether it is a series of wonderful boards and stories as on
QUEEN MARY 2. This one will be more like a museum
with items in cases with stories told behind them. The very
first exhibit that is going to hang in there is one depicting the
Queen ships that we have had. On the deck above, there
will be the Cunardia Gallery, which is going to have
interactive exhibits in which you can actually see and hear
some of the happenings of our past. There will also be a
museum shop where you can buy Cunard memorabilia, if
you wish.
