The Main Dining Room in Independence
is three decks high with each level having its
own name: Romeo and Juliet (deck 3);
MacBeth (deck 4) and King Lear (deck 5).
Each level has its own style but they blend
well together into an overall grand room.

The Romeo and Juliet and the MacBeth
follow the traditional passenger ship style
where each passenger has a reserved place at
one of the two seatings.  The King Lear has a
flexible dining program called My Time
Dining, in which guests can come to dinner at
any time the restaurant is open.
Breakfast is open seating and is  in
the Romeo and Juliet Dining Room.
On sea days, the same room is open
for lunch, again on a n open seating
basis.  The lunch menu features
Brasserie 30, which is designed to
allow the guest to have a complete
lunch in 30 minutes.

For entertainment, the waiters sing
and perform and the chefs parade
(middle left and below left).  Captain
Remo joins the restaurant staff to
wish the guests farewell on the last
night of a cruise (below)
Independence has two extra-tariff specialty restaurants.
Portofino (above)  is an intimate Italian-style venue
while the
Chops Grille (below)  is a high end steak house.
Independence has a large buffet divided into Jade
and the
Windjammer Cafe.  Both sections are
very popular.   Both are open for breakfast, lunch and
dinner.
As a variation on My Time
Dining, Royal Caribbean is
introducing My Family Time
Dining.  This program allows
guests traveling with children to
have a meal together in 40
minutes.  At the end of that time,
the children go off to Adventure
Ocean while the adults can have
coffee and dessert.
Johnny Rocket's is styled after a 1950/1960s American
dinner.  In keeping with that style, it serves hamburgers,
french fries, and sundaes. There is a small cover charge of
$4.95 - - an amount also in keeping with the 1950s.

Johnny Rocket's is more than a dining venue.  When a
customer enters, a call goes out "everybody say 'Hi" and
the staff greet the customer in unison.  A similar chorus
occurs when a guest leaves.

In between, there is music from the 1950s and 1960s
playing in the backgorund.  Periodically, all of the waiters
break into tableside dance .
Cafe Promenade perhaps not surprisingly is on the Royal Promenade and is open 24 hours for
snacks including sandwiches and cookies.
Sorrentos is Independence's pizzeria.  With tables both inside and on the Royal
Proemande it is a nice location to sit and watch the world go by.  It is open from 11:30
a.m. to 3 a.m.
For ice cream snacks, guests have
a choice between the name brand
Ben & Jerry's (left) on the Royal
Promenade or the free soft ice
cream machines at
Sprinkles
(right) in the main pool area.
The dining staff also provide buffets on those
nights when when there is a Deck Party .
