BARS AND LOUNGES
INDEPENDENCE OF
THE SEAS
PHOTO TOUR
AND
COMMENTARY
Situated around the aft centrum on
Deck Four is Boleros Lounge, a
bar with a Latin flavor. In the
evenings, there is live music.
After walking forward through the casino on Deck Four, one comes to a long time Royal Caribbean favorite,
the Schooner Bar. During the day and early evening, it is the scene for trivia contests and similar
activities. In the evenings, it becomes a piano bar.
Just outside of the Studio B ice rink complex is the On the Air Club. Equipped with television screens, this venue
shows sports games and events.
The Labyrinth is a Gothic
inspired disco. It occupies
portions of decks three and four
and has a bar on each level.
Guests on Deck Four can look
down to see the dance floor on
Deck Three.
At the door, guests are greeted by
two stained glass works by Harry
Cardcross, "The Raven of the
Tower" and "The Raven of the
Battle" (left). Carrying on the
Tower of London theme,by the
dance floor, there are nearly life
size figures of a Beefeater (by
Orest Kormashov) and of a mod
Beefeaterette.
Bordering the centrum lobby at the aft end of the Royal Promenade
is the Champagne Bar, perhaps the most elegant of the ship's
bars.
Further forward on the Royal Promenade is Vintages Wine Bar. It not
only functions as a wine bar but is also the scene of wine tasting classes.
A ship that spends a significant part of its time in Britain would
have to have a pub and Independence has The Dog and
Badger Pub. It is located further forward on the Royal
Promenade and has seating outside on the Promenade as well as
inside. In the evenings, it has a singer/guitarist leading
sing-alongs.
Just past the forward centrum
on Deck Five is The
Connoisseur Cigar
Club where guests can light
up with a cognac or other
drink.
At the forward end of Deck Five is
the Pyramid Lounge, which as the
name indicates, was inspired by
Ancient Egypt. It has a bar, a stage
and a dance floor. In addition to
music and dancing, it is used in the
evening for swagoing versions of
television game shows and for similar
activities. The statue of
Tutankhamen (right)by Novidis is
made of plaster and is based on the
statue in the Cairo Museum..
Located in the Viking Crown
Lounge that wraps around the ship's
forward funnel, Olive or Twist
offers spectacular views over the
ship's open decks and over the
surrounding water. It has a bar, a
stage and a dance floor. In the
evenings, a wide variety of music is
performed here including classical
performances, jazz recitals and
dance music.
Convenient to the Chops Grille,
Portofino and the ship's buffet
restaurants is the Plaza Bar
(left).
A bar of a different nature is
Squeeze, which features
smoothies and juice drinks (right).
Also serving the open decks are: the Pool Bar (above) next to
the Main Pool Area, the Sky Bar (above right), located on Deck
12 in amongst the deck chairs; the Solarium Bar (below) in
the adults-only pool area; and the Wipe Out Bar (right) by the
Flow Rider.
