PORTS OF CALL
One of St. Thomas’ most popular attractions is
Coral World Ocean Park.  Its centerpiece is the
Undersea Observatory Tower located 100 feet from
shore.  Visitors descend a spiral staircase 15 feet to a
room below the waterline where there are large
windows that provide views of the undersea life.  The
park also has a building with 21 indivdual aquariums
as well as an 800,000 gallon aquarium that recreates
a coral reef. Outdoor tanks have turtles, sting rays and
sharks plus there is an aviary with tropical birds.

Coral World also offers a number of activities
including Sea Trek, where visitors can don helmets
and walk the ocean floor as well as a swim with sea
lions experience.

St. Peter’s Great House is a frequent stop on tours of St. Thomas.  It is
built on what was the 150-acre Plantation St. Peter.  Today, the house is
used for conferences, receptions and events but its rooms are decorated
in a contemporary, luxurious Caribbean style.  However, the main
attraction of this venue is outdoors where there are stunning views over
the south side of the island including Magens Bay and of the neighboring
islands.  Visitors can also explore the lush botanical garden.

According to legend, Sir Francis Drake placed
lookouts at the top of a hill in St. Thomas in order to
spot approaching Spanish treasure ships.  There is no
evidence that Drake ever came to St. Thomas but
Drake’s Seat pays tribute to that legend.  From it,
there are panoramic views over the north side of the
island, the surrounding sea and the neighboring islands.
