OVERVIEW

Ventura entered service in April 2008 after being
named by Dame Hellen Mirren in a ceremony in which
a team of Royal Marines scaled the side of the ship to
ensure that the champagne bottle performed correctly
when launched against the ship's bow.

Although the ship is based upon the Grand
Princess-design that is the main stay of P&O's
American sister company Princess Cruises, the ship is
distinctly British.  This does not mean that it is
decorated to look like what tourists think of as Britain
but rather it is designed to appeal to contemporary
British tastes.  The interior styling is clean and
contemporary.  There is no neon and nothing of a
theme-park atmosphere.

P&O has a long history of having art work on its ships.
According to past P&O Cruises Managing Director
Nigel Esdale: "Bespoke design and attention to detail
are an inegral part of P&O Cruise ships, and as such
each ship has its own distinct personality.  The art
collection has always been at the heart of that
personality, illustrating what the ship stands for, as well
as creating a unique look and feel.  It also provides an
additional dimension to our passengers' experience,
giving them food for thought and enhancing their
enjoyment of the public spaces."

Following in this tradition, 7,000 pieces of art were
commissioned for Ventura from 43 artists.  Consistent
with the idea of creating a ship for Britain, all of the
artists are British or live and work in Britain.  The
works run a wide range of styles and incorporate a
diverse array of media including paintings, sculptures,
mosaics, photography, prints, for example.  The
unifying factor is Britishness.

In keeping with this emphasis on art, the enrichment
program on some voyages includes talks by employees
of the Tate Modern museum in London.

This is not to imply that Ventura only offers cerebral
entertainment.  One unique feature of the ship is a
circus school where guests can learn to walk a
tightrope, juggle or fly on the trapeze.  There are also
plenty of traditional cruise ship facilities including
pools, spas, and sports facilities.  In the evening, there
are shows, bars, and a variety of dining venues.
Ventura is a very big ship and there is plenty to do
onboard.

Ventura is also very family-friendly.  There are
extensive youth facilities and several programmes of
supervised children's activities tailored to different age
groups.  Clearly, the ship was designed to attract not
only Britain today but of tomorrow.
