NORWEGIAN JEWEL
IN THE CARIBBEAN
The approach to the cruise ship pier in Tortola requires
negotiating some shallow waters. Above Norwegian
Jewel passes close-by the bow of Queen Mary 2, which
was sitting in the anchorage.
Left: After passing QM2, Jewel turns to port to stay
within the narrow channel.
Below: Jewel turns to starboard in an S-curve and heads
toward the pier. This was complicated by strong winds
pushing against her starboard side in the opposite
direction from where she wanted to go..

Left: Because there were five large cruise ships in
port, Jewel ties up away from the cruise ship
terminal.
Below: Jewel backing out of the harbor past the
stern of QM2.

Left: Having overcome the winds and navigated the
approach, Jewel sits serenely at the cruise ship pier.

Left: The next morning Jewel is at sea heading
south.
Below: Jewel enters the harbor in Bridgetown,
Barbados.
Left: Clear of the harbor, Jewel turns to head
out to sea.
