MSC POESIA
PHOTO TOUR
AND
COMMENTARY
OVERVIEW
MSC Poesia is the third ship in MSC's Musica class. At
92,000 gross tons, she could be described as a medium sized ship
relative to some of today's mega-cruise ships. However, she is in
fact quite a large ship.
Poesia has a distinctly European style. It is not a traditional
Old World style but rather a sleek contemporary look. Think in
terns of Milan with its sophisticated modern designers rather than
the classic designs of Venice or Florence. The designs are often
bold but at the same time are restrained enough to look tasteful
rather than gaudy.
The interior is divided into large public spaces. There are
some smaller venues but for the most part the public rooms
convey a sense of spaciousness.
Enhancing the overall look is the fact that the ship is kept
very clean and polished. The metal and the stone work gleams.
The ship serves a mix of nationalities. When Poesia is
cruising in Europe, the majority of passengers are European.
When she is sailing from North America, the majority are North
Americans.
Because the passengers speak a variety of languages,
documents such as daily programs and menus are available in
several languages. The crew is international but almost all speak
at least some English. Indeed, most seem to be quite fluent.
The cruise experience on Poesia is a European cruise
experience. MSC is a European company and most of its
passengers are Europeans. As a result, passengers familiar with
the American-headquartered cruise lines should anticipate a
different type of experience. There are no towel animals awaiting
passengers on their beds each night. Along the same lines, dining
is done in the traditional passenger ship style.
Still, MSC does seek to accommodate its non-European
guests. For example, prices on the Poesia are in U.S. dollars
when she is sailing on her North American itineraries. The
menus also include dishes that will be familiar to non-Europeans.
Poesia sails the Caribbean from Fort Lauderdale Florida
during the winter. In the spring she returns to Europe and cruises
the Mediterranean and Northern Europe. In the fall, she comes
to New York for Canada/New England cruises.
The central atrium is ringed by balconies
and flowing staircases. Above: At the
base of the atrium is the Rendez-Vous
Lobby.

The Reception Desk (right) and
the Accounting Desk (below)
are adjacent to each other in the
lobby. The Travel Agency

the shore excursions.
Poesia's art collection leans toward the
abstract and harmonizes with the ship's
modernistic decor.
