Eurodam is the largest ship in the Holland America fleet.
Entering service in July 2008 after being named by
Queen Beatrix of The Netherlands, Eurodam is based
upon the same design as HAL's Vista class ships.
However, she has an additional deck, which gives her
about 3,500 more gross tons than her immediate
predecessor Noordam .
The additional size has been used to give Eurodam
several new features including the Tamarind Asian-fusion
specialty restaruant, Spa suites and staterooms and The
Retreat, a secluded area on the top deck populated with
luxury cabanas. In addition, Eurodam incorporates all of
the concepts developed during HAL's Signature of
Excellence intiative - - a $425 million enhancement of
HAl's existing fleet.
The overall interior design of Eurodam is modern and
contemporary. However, intermixed with the
information age decor is traditional Western and Asian
art. The colors tend to be subdued earth tones with
fresh flowers here and there for contrast.
Passengers on Eurodam tend to be sophisticated and
well-educated. The age group on HAL's larger ships
tends to be slightly younger than on its smaller ships. In
addition, there has been an attempt to reach out to
families. For example, the new Canaletto restaurant
offers an informal venue for family dining.
Eurodam spent her initial summer cruising in Northern
Europe. Then, after a series of cruises to Eastern
Canada from New York, she moved to the Caribbean for
the winter. Her schedule followed the same pattern
during her second year.
