responsibilities include the entertainment,

Crystal seeks to promote a
friendly, service-oriented attitude
with its staff as exemplified by
Hotel Operations Assistant Felicity

OVERVIEW:  The watchword on CRYSTAL
SYMPHONY is luxury.  The goal is to provide a six
star experience and the ship has the awards to show
that it is achieving that goal.
  Although not a mega-cruiseship, CRYSTAL
SYMPHONY is larger than most ships in the luxury
cruise ship category.  There are advantages to this.
For example, CRYSTAL SYMPHONY can offer
more facilities and amenities than could be put into a
smaller ship.  However, mass production is often an
enemy of luxury and the more people there are on a
ship, the more difficult it becomes to provide the
personalized service that is a hallmark of a luxury
experience.
Crystal seeks to overcome this danger by having a
large crew in relation to the number of passengers.
Indeed, while most premium category ships have a
crew to passenger ratio of 2.2, CRYSTAL
SYMPHONY has a 1.7 ratio.  Furthermore, the
crew is trained and encouraged to provide friendly,
personalized service.
At the end of the day, service is the primary factor
that distinguishes a luxury ship from a premium ship.
If one simply lists the amenities, facilities and services
on modern cruise ships, the lists would be  pretty
nearly identical.  Thus, the difference between ships
lies primarily in the way those amenities, facilities and
services are provided to the passengers.
The interior of CRYSTAL SYMPHONY is for the
most part contemporary.  It is sophisticated and
elegant; there is no glitter.  It is for the most part
understated and streamlined.
An important feature of a Crystal cruise is the
enrichment program.  The line brings authors, political
figures, historians and celebrities on board to lecture
and talk with the guests.  In addition, there are
destination lectures and self-improvement courses
including an extensive program about computers.
This is an intellectual ship.
The sophistication carries over into the dress code.
It is resort wear during the day but even then no
swim suits, robes, or baseball caps in the dining
rooms.  In the evenings, some nights are formal,
others jacket and tie/cocktail dresses, and some are
casual.  Jeans and shorts are generally not acceptable
in the evening.
CRYSTAL SYMPHONY's itinerary takes her  to
many different destinations around the world.  As a
result, she has to cross a variety of waters.  While not
an ocean liner, she does have a narrower bow than
many cruise ships, which helps her handle such
waters.
Although there are currently only two ships in the
Crystal fleet, it should be borne in mind that the
company is owned and supported by one of the
world's largest shipping companies, Japan's NYK
Line.
