CROWN PRINCESS
TOUR AND
COMMENTARY
CROWN
PRINCESS
PRINCESS CRUISES
Looking forward the stern of the ship, one gets a sense
of the ship's height as well as her length.  To keep her from
being top heavy, the ship was designed so that fuel,
machinery, and stores are located lower down in the ship.
Also, more lighter weight aluminum, as opposed to steel,
was used in the upper decks.
CROWN PRINCESS has a large and spacious bridge.
The officers can control the ship from the two leather
chairs located in the cockpit-style console.  An interesting
feature is that the ship's wheel can be raised and lowered
to adjust to the height of the helmsman.
Although the ship uses traditional propellers attached to
shafts rather than the increasingly popular azipod
arrangement, her dual rudders make her very responsive
while maneuvering.
CROWN PRINCESS has been described as the best
of the Grand-class of cruise ships.  She is modern,
clean, and full of passenger amenities.
The public rooms are elegantly designed and
sophisticated.  There has been extensive use of wood
paneling, leather upholstery in the bars, lounges and in
the dining venues giving those areas a feeling of
old-money luxury.  In other areas, the design is more
contemporary but the quality of materials and
workmanship are no less.  Overall, the feeling is one of
sumptuousness.
At the same time, this is not a stuffy ship.  The day time
dress code is sportswear and casual clothes.  There are
formal nights but the remainder are casual.
This ship differs from her predecessors primarily in the
amenities.  She was used to launch several new venues
and programs including the Crown Grill and the
International Cafe.  Like the CARIBBEAN
PRINCESS and the EMERALD PRINCESS, this ship
has one more deck than the original Grand-class ships.
