OVERVIEW
Celebrity Summit is the third of four ships
designed for Celebrity Cruises by Jon
Bannenberg. She has sleek, eye-pleasing
lines that give an impression of graceful
movement.
Summit, like her sisters (Celebrity
Millennium, Celebrity Infinity and Celebrity
Constellation,) is also very sophisticated
technologically. The ship utilizes the Azipod
system, which makes her very maneuverable
and which has such added benefits as
increasing the amount of usable space within
the hull and reducing engine vibration.
Her primary power source is gas turbine
engines, which are very powerful and
environmentally friendly. (Unfortunately,
they are also very expensive to operate and
so all four ships have been retrofitted with a
diesel engine, which they can use for power
in port and on those occasions when just a bit
of additional power is needed).
Summit's hotel is as sophisticated as her
technology. The ship is done in an
understated contemporary style with soft
lighting and earth tones. Placed
unobtrusively around the ship are numerous
pieces of 20th century art. The atmosphere is
tranquil and upscale.
In 2012, Summit underwent an extensive refit,
which added several new venues to the ship
and revitalized other areas.
Summit spends the colder months cruising out
of San Juan, Puerto Rico. Then, in the warmer
months, she cruises out of Bayonne, New
Jersey (part of the port of New York) going
to Bermuda and to New England/Canada.
If you are looking to speak with someone official, the
place to go is the base of the Grand Foyer. Here one
finds: The Guests Relations desk, the ship's
reception desk (above right). Nearby, is The Concierge
Desk. (right) where guests can book car rentals, make
restaurant reservations etc. in the ports of call. The
Captain's Club desk is there for repeat Celebrity
passengers (below). The Shore Excursions office is
on the starboard side of the Grand Foyer (below right). It
is next to the Future Cruise office (bottom left).
However, there are also points of contact in other parts of
the ship such as The Personal Concierge desk, which
helps with Special Occasions Consultant's Desk
(bottom right)
Summit has a three-deck high
central atrium is dominated by
curtained-pillars which frame a
central staircase.
Summit has a large, high
quality art collection,
featuring primarily
contemporary works. Some of
the pieces were retained from
the collection on Celebrity
Galaxy when that ship left the
Celebrity fleet.
