OVERVIEW
CONSTELLATION is an elegant and
sophisticated ship. The interior is restrained good
taste. For the most part, it is a contemporary
design but there are some rooms that were inspired
by styles of another era. However, even in those
areas, the atmosphere is one of conservative
refinement. With the exception of the casino, there
is nothing gaudy about the decor.
The primary target market for this ship is the
accomplished, successful baby-boomers.
Consequently, there is an emphasis on service with
the ship having a low crew to passenger ratio of
1:1.9. The enrichment program includes lectures,
wine tastings, and computer training. But, there are
also facilities for physical activities such as an indoor
golf simulator, a jogging track, and a well-equipped
fitness center.
The fourth and final ship in Celebrity's Millennium
class, CONSTELLATION incorporates some of
the latest maritime technology. She has two
azimuthal pods, rather than the traditional propellers
and shaft propulsion system. In addition, her
engines are powered by gas turbines, which are a
cleaner system than the diesel engines used by most
ships. Unfortunately, with the rise in oil prices,
operating gas turbines has become very expensive
and Celebrity's parent company, Royal Caribbean,
is in the process of retrofitting diesel engines into its
ships for use in port and to assist the gas turbines.
