OVERVIEW
Carnival Legend is third of Carnival's Spirit class (See also sister
ship Carnival Miracle). Although not as large as the most recent
Carnival ships, these ships are still big. They are faster than most
cruise ships and have good seakeeping abilities. Consequently,
this basic design has proven so successful that it has been used as
the basis for ships in the fleets of Holland America, Costa, P&O
Cruises, and Cunard.
Inside Carnival Legend is ornately decorated and often refers
back to ancient civilisations. The interior design theme for Legend
is appropriately enough - - legends. Joseph Farcus who designed
the ship has explained: "You will see represented aboard the
Legend many different legends. The legend could be a story, it
could be a person, it could be a legendary place. It is always
interpreted in very different ways."
For example, at the heart of the ship is an 11-story atrium done in
a neo-classical motif. A giant mural of the ancient Greek legend
the Colossus of Rhodes covers approximately five decks.
One has to keep in mind in exploring the public rooms is that the
overarching objective of a Carnival cruise is to have fun. The
spectacular is part of that.
Cabins in the Spirit-class are comfortable and well-designed.
Eighty percent of the staterooms on Legend have ocean views.
The ship was named by British actress Dame Judi Dench.
Reportedly, Dame Judi was covered in champagne in the process.
Legend was the first Carnival Cruise Lines ship to cruise on a
regular basis in Europe. However, her current schedule has her
sailing the Caribbean, primarily out of Tampa, Florida.
