CARNIVAL GLORY
TOUR AND
COMMENTARY
OVERVIEW
CARNIVAL GLORY is one of the latest and largest ships in the
Carnival Cruise Lines fleet. At, 110,000 tons, the Conquest class is
slightly larger than the popular Destiny class but has a similar interior
arrangement. The ships were designed with warm weather cruising in
mind, principally in the Caribbean.
One particularly admirable aspect of Carnival's approach to cruising
is that although the ships may be the same or very similar
architecturally, there is a conscious effort to differentiate them. Interior
designer Joe Farcus develops a theme for each ship and develops this
theme throughout the ship's public rooms. Thus, each ship has its own
feel and character.
On CARNIVAL GLORY, the theme is colors. This does not mean
that each room was just painted a different color but that the decoration
of the rooms was inspired by the use of color in some famous place
around the world. For example, the Amber Palace Lounge, the ship's
theater, was inspired by the Amber Room in Russia while the Golden
and Silver Temples in Kyoto, Japan were the inspiration for the Golden
and Platinum Dining Room. There are also visual ideas that work off of
plays on words. The central atrium is the Old Glory Atrium - - Old
Glory is a nickname for the American flag, a flag is also known as the
colors, the decorating theme, and of course, the ship is the GLORY.
Accordingly, the area contains patriotic motifs as well as strong colors.
Indeed, the atrium bar is the Colors Bar. All of this serves to make the
ship more interesting.
At the same time, past Carnival passengers familiar with the layout
of other Conquest class or Destiny class ships will have no difficulty
finding their way around the GLORY. Thus, the ship is both different
and familiar.

Kaleidescope Boulevard runs along the
starboard side of Deck 5 passing the casino
and a number of other public rooms.
Decoration on GLORY runs the gamut
from bright colored geometric sculpture
(above) to the subtle shades of an antique
Japanese print (below).
The colors theme manifests itself in many ways
throughout GLORY. In the Ebony Cabaret, the decor
incorporates traditional African tribal art (above) while
in the Camel Club casino the decoration is more
whimsical in Las Vegas tradition.
There is also a nod toward the theme on
the passenger cabin decks with panels
depicting famous artists placed near the
elevators (above).
However, the general atmosphere on these
decks is that of a restrained hotel (right).
